Not good news, but i guess i havent gone to a swap meet for a while unless in needed something on sunday for some reason.

Its sad to see these organisers go, as i remember the days when i was young : D and the computer swap meets were another world : DI feel that places like MSY etc (well here in melb at least) made the swap meets less attractive to pc/parts buyers, but its a shame to see them go because of the amount of harassment by lawyers acting in relation to the sale of counterfeit goods.

The allegations are untrue and the threats are without foundation.

Max and Dorothea have always been at pains to operate their businesses within the law and with integrity and transparency.

Just stumbled across this on The very sad end of an era indeed.---------------------------------- ---------------------------Max and Dorothea Morton, the owners of Technology Supermarkets Pty Ltd and Freetrader Publications Pty Ltd, have decided to forthwith cease trading the business of those companies, which are as follows: Computer Swapmeets The Australian Computer Trader website and magazine Max and Dorothea have been receiving a significant amount of harassment by lawyers acting in relation to the sale of counterfeit goods at the swapmeets and by Computer Trader.

It was also great to shop around for little things like cheap case fans and check out the cabling/connector stands. You could find a converter for just about anything and a cable to fit it too and it was $1 or $2, not $19 like it is from Harvey Norman.

Now all easy weekend access to cheap secondhand goods vanishes and everybody has to buy new stuff at retail outlets, and a lot of otherwise good stuff gets dumped because there is nowhere to sell it.

Oh goody the plan worked just wonderfully for big business.

I agree there was always plenty of pirated software/movies/games on offer advertised as 'shareware' or 'demos'. bah good riddance, imho this is no big loss they had nothing to really offer the public anymore except counterfeit software and games some of which they actually tried to pass off as it people, over the last few years they have lost the competitive edge in terms of price which was their big draw card imho.

I agree it will be sad to see swap meets closing down.

Even 5 years ago though my dad did indeed swap some second hand printer parts with a guy who had a stall there.
